Can CBD Help You Lose Weight?

Obesity is an epidemic in the United States. Whether it's the prevalence of fast food and unhealthy eating habits or our busy lives leaving us with no time for fitness, the average American's lifestyle is not a healthy one. Subsequently, the weight loss industry is worth billions, as countless health marketers sell us seemingly infinite weight loss products. Yet there still isn't a solution that beats good old diet and exercise.

Or is there?

We know CBD helps with reducing pain and stress levels, along with a variety of other similar ailments, but can it really help with weight loss too? After all, cannabis is typically associated with the "munchies," so can we realistically expect the opposite reaction with CBD?

The answer is more complicated than you think, but studies have shown that YES, CBD can help you lose weight. Or even gain it, if you're underweight. It may sound too good to be true, but the science backs up its versatility as a weight management tool.

Studies have shown that the Endocannabinoid System, the system through which CBD affects you, is also the most crucial physiological aspect of your body. It's through this system that CBD can bring about such positive results, including better sleep and focus, pain and stress relief, and yes, weight loss. Research has shown the reason for this being that the Endocannabinoid System is in charge of the body's "homeostasis" – or keeping everything in balance. That means it either speeds up or slows down your metabolism as needed to keep your body in perfect weight.

But that's not all. One study on the subject has shown that CBD directly impacts the body's fat burning process. Researchers found that CBD actually stimulates proteins and fat genes to speed up the oxidation and breakdown of fat. It also increases the mitochondria count and activity in your body's cells to burn more calories. If that’s not all, the same study revealed that CBD reduces the expression of proteins in the generation of fat cells.

Even further studies have shown that CBD directly increases your rate of metabolism. It’s been proven that CBD stimulates specific areas of the body involved in metabolisms like your skeletal muscles and gastrointestinal tract. In turn, compounds absorbed from food during the digestion process metabolize faster, meaning you take on less weight over time.

In short, all these processes together mean that yes, CBD actually can be used for weight loss. Of course, that doesn't mean you can pig out on the couch all day and think CBD will solve all your problems. CBD is an excellent supplement to a healthy lifestyle and should be used to help you maintain it. It might not replace a healthy diet entirely, but it will make it easier to sustain one. So try adding CBD to your healthy lifestyle today and see the difference yourself.
